Spring Break is a great time to go and check out a museum or gallery. But, my daughter wanted to start looking at Colleges. When we stopped by the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, they were on spring break as well.
The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) is Wisconsin’s only four-year, nonprofit, private college of visual art and design. MIAD’s campus is located in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward, the city’s official arts district, some twenty blocks of renovated warehouses, artists lofts, theaters, businesses, shops, and restaurants. Bordered by the Milwaukee River and Lake Michigan and a destination for both tourists and residents, the Third Ward possesses a distinct and unique urban flavor.
There are many emphases for building upon your academic art skills, including:
- Communication Design
- Fashion & Apparel Design
- Fine Art
- Illustration
- Animation
- Interior Architecture
- Product Design
- and much more.
There were a lot of ideas that I could work on to try with my Middle School students, if nothing else inspiring. I really enjoyed the cereal box design idea, which might be a new fun project!
After we finished up, we stopped by Black Cat Alley, which is a spot where artists have created some murals. It was fun, but the day was cold & windy, which made our time short.
