Art Teaching with a touch of Technology

Sometimes videos are too long.  And, you just want to watch a small part.  I love TED Talks, but I do not think there is enough time to watch a whole TED Talk in a class.   There are lots of ways you could edit a video... some not exactly respecting the wishes of the person that uploaded the content, and mostly time wasters.  But here is a way you can code the web address to give you a player window that just creates a snippet. You can then use this as a link during a Keynote, Google Slides, or just sending to your students so they can focus on the important part of the video. Here is a video walk through... Waupaca Middle School will be opening YouTube to students soon.  So... Why? 'introducing kobena super 8 for the creative film maker 1966' by Nesster  via CC 2.0 YouTube is a fantastic learning resource.  Don't know how to fix your garbage disposal? Chances are, someone on YouTube has already created a video to help you along .  Want to learn the basics of playing the guitar ?  Again, there is a giant pile of video content for that.  YouTube seems to be the way that people learn. But YouTube can also create new opportunities for your classroom.  Heard of 'Flipping' your Classroom?  YouTube is often a great way to change the dynamic of your classroom. What about homework help.... linking videos that cover content that you are sending home, that might be able to remind the student about what was discussed in the classroom. So today my school closed due to the MERS illness that is going on around Asia.  I am not very concerned, but it is good to have precautions.  Students are working from home today.  This cropped up on us last minute, and I thought I'd share as to how to create a Google Hangout on Air for your Class. Prerequisites: You need a YouTube Account that is Verified.  Visit https://www.youtube.com/features  to do so. This needs to be done with a Computer, not a tablet or phone. All "attendees" must have a Gmail account. (Google+ is not needed) A list of your student "attendees" emails, I made mine in a Google Sheet. Set up your Hangout on Air.  Visit  https://plus.google.com/hangouts/onair When you are about to Start your event: Start your Broadcast  Remind students to Mute their Microphone when not speaking.
